Almost everyone experiences an episode of adrenal fatigue at some time in their lives. The general weakness which follows any acute illness or infection is a classic example. The chronic form of adrenal exhaustion, commonly referred to as ‘burn out’, is less frequent but on the increase due to the physical and physiological demands we put on our adrenal glands.
The most common symptoms are fatigue (with or without anxiety and insomnia), low blood pressure, loss of memory, difficulty in concentrating, and a general over-sensitiveness. You may find yourself reaching for more coffee, soft drinks or sugar as a source of energy when you begin to feel tired.
If the adrenal glands become depleted, they can struggle to keep up with the energy demands and adrenal exhaustion may be experienced. Symptoms include fatigue, lowered resistance to stress, salt cravings, hypoglycemia and lowered immunity.
